When I was in high school, I had some nagging thoughts about the unknown aspects and rigors of college.
I had never been the most disciplined person in the world and I was not the greatest reader in my class.
Beside all of this, I had an older sister who seemed to be “struck” with schizophrenia as a result of a rough semester abroad.
The thought of this repeating itself on me plagued my inner thoughts as a tender teenager.
“After all,” I worried, “if it happened to her, it could occur with me.”
Unfortunately, being much younger than her, I had to live with this underlying fear for many years only to find out that I would graduate college without ever experiencing such an affliction. But that was a long ten years.
Mark Twain said, “I've had a lot of worries in my life, most of which never happened.”
Perhaps if I had been reading more scripture and Twain in high school…
PORTAL TO HEAVEN: Opportunities (such as education) should be portals to heaven and not closures in the spiritual atmosphere of our lives.
