This "Church" Has A Prayer

The National Day of Prayer (NDP) is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Every president since 1952 has issued a proclamation, asking us to pray for our nation. Thursday, May 3rd will be the sixty-seventh annual observance of NDP.

In preparation for the NDP, two different communities in the Albany, New York region met to seek God on behalf of our communities and nation. Congregations and pastors from Duanesburg and Albany gathered for worship and prayer. Both were unique and strong in prayer with intersession for an awakening being the main emphasis. And isn’t this exactly what America needs?

I wonder if too often we are concerned about the temporal more than the eternal. It seems it wasn’t until after Jesus’ death that those closest to Him understood God’s plan for eternity. Consider Luke 24:21 – “But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel.” This doesn’t mean that life in Israel wasn’t important, but that life eternal was more important.

On May 3rd we are gathering to seek God for what is most important, that is, for an awakening that touches the souls of Americans.

PRAYER: Lord we need You desperately. Lord, if the statistics are true, many, if not most Americans don’t know You or maybe are not known by you (Matthew 7:21-23). Holy Spirit, draw Americans to truly know that the disciples of Jesus Christ need to be more concerned with the eternal and not to be caught up in the temporal. May our lives be lived for the glory of Jesus, the One who suffered, died and was raised again (2 Corinthians 5:15)
