After I completed a book on behalf of an Italian immigrant who had been on the infamous passage of the Andrea Doria in 1956 and whose life was threatened twice in one day due to this shipwreck, I had a perspective of how God can use difficulties in a way that makes His sovereignty and salvation a little hard to miss.
Late in his seventies, Michael Moscatiello had a burning desire to capture his life story and his five brushes with death. He wanted his progeny to know that God had saved him; but more than that, He had rescued him because He had a plan for his life.
Besides the sinking of the Andrea Doria, Michael had an intestinal problem as a young boy whereby his doctor told him, “Children like you end up in cemeteries.” But his mother said, “God don’t want you yet.”
After the harrowing event of the Doria, Michael’s brother lost his life saving Michael in a swimming accident. If that wasn’t enough, a car literally drove over Michael and he escaped with a broken shoulder.
Late into his eighth decade of life, Michael knew that he had to tell his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren his story.

As I looked around the full room at the book-signing and saw Michael’s fruitful and exuberant clan, I couldn’t help but realize that none of them would have been there if Michael’s life hadn’t been spared those five times.
The pain that Michael had held in for 78 years was poured out in the book. But when Michael’s offspring went one-by-one to have their patriarch autograph his memoir, they also got to see a portal of salvation…how one life can really save another.
PORTAL TO HEAVEN: Christ carried our pain. Someday, we will see The Lamb of God with his scars and see the book He has written. Will your name be in that book?
‘He himself bore our sins’ in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; "by his wounds you have been healed.”…we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done…We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.
