Passion & Perspiration

Lovers know that perspiration is part of the path to passion.

Thomas Edison said that genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.

August makes even the skinniest football player lose weight in pre-season.

For the romantic, it’s, “Vive la vision!” But there is a backside to every beautiful baby and it’s a miserable situation when their little bottoms get ignored.

So passion and perspiration coax us with some intertwining magical formula that isn’t really discovered until the job is done.

This happened to me when I decided to purchase and remodel a historic Hudson River home in upstate. I could see the potential and I was excited about the vision.

Then, the bills started rolling in and I began to sweat it out.

After any initial dream is outlined and underway in Act I, reality falls as heavy as the curtain in Act II.

And it’s here that Edison had it right. All of his lights go on in full glory - but not until after Act III when everyone is taking bows.

It’s simply a good rule of thumb to learn to live with sweat.

In the end, perspiration actually becomes the passion.

PORTAL TO HEAVEN: The “means” to the end may feel mean. But it has a way of proving to be a very wise coach.

And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground…Surely you remember, brothers and sisters, our toil and hardship; we worked night and day in order not to be a burden to anyone while we preached the gospel of God to you…That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God.

Luke 22:44 NIV, 1 Thessalonians 2:9 NIV, Ecclesiastes 3:13 NASB
