Holy Thursday & Mom's Last Supper

Holy Thursday is the celebration of The Last Supper of Jesus Christ. At that Seder Meal, Jesus took the form of a servant in one of the greatest and clearest lessons of who God is and what heaven is like.

I grew up at an Italian table and believe me, it was heaven on earth. I can still smell those meat balls being cooked to perfection. And the sauce. Sometimes, she’d put chicken or pork or both.

But the most memorable thing about our dinner table was Mom’s servanthood. She loved to serve her family and with seven mouths to feed, it was quite a job.

I remember Mom’s last supper. Cancer was taking her away from us. She sat at the table after returning from the hospital. My sister Lucille said, “It’s good to have you back.”

Mom, through struggled breathing, replied, “It’s good to be back.”

Mom gave her married life to serve us. I called her “Apron Countenance.” No, it wasn’t just her meals. It was in everything she did.

But she probably is helping Jesus set the table for the great feast.

PORTAL TO HEAVEN: We are born to die. The question is: What are we willing to die for?

‘Do you understand what I have done for you?’ he asked them. ‘You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.’

John 13:12-17 NIV
