You Just Asked The Wrong Guy

(THIS WEEK: Wise Men Still Seek Him.)

Dear Readers,

Thank you for considering the print-version of Portals.

BB

One of the most troubling and avoidable instances of bad advice is a portal to heaven for today’s pilgrim - and particularly the younger set.

If the wise men knew that Herod wanted to kill Jesus Christ, would they have gone to him in the first place?

In order to answer that, we must take into consideration that most people of any age go to an authority to find an answer. The wise men simply went to the authority in the land for “directions.”

However, the portal to heaven is to know what real authority is; as was the case when it was noted that Jesus “taught with authority” unlike the experts of the law. Note, many at that time were fooled into thinking their leaders were “experts.”

So it is today when students go off to government-supported schools with experts and are subject to their “authority.” Adults also seek advice. We go to our government, media and culture authorities and experts for wisdom without understanding that many of them want to kill Jesus Christ in their own way.

Scripture clearly points out that all true wisdom and authority comes from God. Anyone rejecting that could be another Herod in the sense that they are looking to kill-off faith in others.

Today’s authorities and experts reject God for the same reason that Herod did: they fear Christ will dethrone them and set up rulership with righteous laws. So, they must kill Christ - whether it be in the classroom, government, media or wherever some naive traveler stops and asks for directions to God.

PORTAL TO HEAVEN: Scriptures are portals when we don’t leave them as dry ink on a page. They must be allowed into our hearts before they can change our hearts. May we treat these pages as sacred so that we know how to seek and find the truth - just like the wise men.

…wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, ‘Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.’ When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him…Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men.

Matthew 2:2,3,16 (NKJV)
