There is an "Endless Summer"

Don’t you wish summer would last forever? Many put on cooler clothes and say, “I could live in a climate like this all year around.”

Is that so?

There was a snowbird who moved from the colder northeastern United States to Florida to a dream house along the coast. The sandy beaches and the prospect of walking around in shorts was something that he thought about most of his career.

“After a year, I got so tired of looking at the waves,” he said.

Of course, that’s certainly not everyone’s experience or Florida wouldn’t be that populous.

A “half-backer” in The Carolinas explained that she retired to her quaint village and was enjoying running a gift store. But she admitted that she left more than cold weather behind. There were three grandchildren in New Jersey that missed their “Nana.”

Vacations are great. But like the summer, they can’t last forever. Even the most optimistic retiree will admit that retirement will come to a point where the only next move is to a funeral home. Could that be why Florida is nicknamed “God’s Waiting Room?”

Metaphorically, life’s summers come to an end. But our souls don’t. How might this figure into our thinking with regard to what we are wishing would go on forever?

PORTAL TO HEAVEN: Enjoying the gifts of friendlier weather, vacation and “down time” is a gift. Elevating them over eternal trajectory is a most dangerous deception.

Redeem the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is…How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand…For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse…Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

“Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 19:14

I had a great time yesterday! I stopped in to see my daughter and granddaughter. Stella, my granddaughter, is so much fun. We played peek-a-bo...
